The map is one of the key elements in Munzee, since it allows players to scout out, search for, and track down munzees in their area. You can access the Munzee map both online and on your phone when logged into your profile.
All About the Web Map
The Munzee Web Map will appear as follows, demonstrating real world streets and places and the corresponding physical and virtual munzee game pieces based on your current location.
To access the map, simply go to https://www.munzee.com/map. (Make sure that you are logged into your online munzee profile!) The Munzee map is highly beneficial to look at in order to be aware of what munzees are in your area. Players also use it to scout out Bouncers in order to pick them up before they make their timed departure. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Fortunately the map can be made far more accessible in munzee-dense areas with the help of filters. All players, regardless of whether or not they have a Premium Membership, will be able to use the same filters on the online map.
If you look at the map, you will find a green bar at the bottom of the window that contains filter options, such as “exclude own munzee” and “only rovers.”
Clicking on these options will filter the map appropriately in order to make it easier to search for specific munzees. Note that you can click on multiple filters at the same time. If you do not see something on the map that you wish to see, be sure that the appropriate filters are turned on.
You will also find an option in the bottom right corner to select between “satellite” and “street.” Above these buttons, you will also see a plus and minus sign, which can be used to zoom in and out on the map accordingly.
The options of “satellite” and “street” will affect how the map appears. You can view the different looks below of the same map pictured in both satellite (top) and street views:
Additionally, in the top right corner you will find options for “Permalink,” “Sandbox,” “Route,” and “Save GPX.”
Clicking “Permalink” will bring up the munzee map for the area you are currently seeing on your screen. This can be used to share with your friends or save as a bookmark. “Sandbox” provides a place to play by putting a munzee on the map that you can move around and click on to use as a quick deploy. “Route” allows you to see munzees along a path, which can be beneficial when planning trips or scouting capping paths. “Save GPX” provides the option for a GPX download, which you can disregard if that is not something you are familiar with.
You can also use the search tool in the upper left corner to search for a specific location on the map where you wish to see munzees.
Several Things to Note
1. The map will show you which Munzees you’ve captured or deployed. You also have the option to filter out your captured and deployed munzees by using the filter bar at the bottom of the map.
2. You can set a home location to save you time! Setting a home location will pre-zoom the map to one that approximates your neighborhood, burough, town, or county. You can change your home location in your Player Profile’s “Settings” section.
3. You can view special munzees on the map. In order to view specials, visit https://www.munzee.com/specials. Like the main map, the specials map will offer options for filtering, searching, using satellite view, etc. You can see an image of this map below.
