Munzee Rover

What is Rover?

Rover is a supplemental piece to the game. A game within the game of Munzee. Not something to add Munzee points but give some people a new goal to chase. Rover is not a type of Munzee. He is transported from one Munzee to the next by players.

Rovers:

• are owned by one player
• have a name, description, logo/icon
• have a goal to reach
• have a score and level
• have two states:
  • is at a munzee
  • is at a player
• can be deactivated by the owner
  • can not be retrieved from a munzee until it gets reactivated
• have to be unleashed by their owners on appropriate munzee based on level (more info below!) to get into the game
  • via app after a capture or deploy OR
  • via computer on every first unleash for a goal
• will be reset to the last active munzee it was unleashed at if the munzee it was at gets undeployed / archived

What Are the Benefits of Munzee-ing With a Rover?

• any player carrying a Rover has
  • a chance to "dig up" Jewel Shards when capping Jewel Munzees
  • the ability to extend the capture radius for certain munzees using Rover Treats
  • a chance to find a Rover Treat when capping the last stage of a Physical Trail -- if you find one, the deployer of the Physical Trail will receive one as well!

How Can I Set a Goal?

If you're setting up your Rover for the first time, please refer to the video above!

Otherwise, here are the steps -- please note that setting goals is online only.

1. Make sure you are logged in to the Munzee website: https://www.munzee.com/
2. Go to your Profile
3. Under [Kennel], click [Pack]
4. Click on your desired Rover
5. Scroll down the page to make sure your Rover is currently at a munzee -- a new goal can only be set if the Rover is currently at a munzee, not at a player
6. Scroll back up and click on [Admin] --> [Set Goal]
7. From here, you can enter in the URL of your desired goal munzee and click [Check], or just click the [Free to Roam] button
   1. If you entered in a URL and clicked [Check]:
      1. If the munzee is the wrong type for the Rover's level:
         1. You will see an error message once the page reloads: "the rover needs a higher level to be unleashed at a munzee of this type"
      2. If the munzee is the right type:
         1. The next page will show how far your Rover will have to travel with a map, calculated distance, and the points it will receive if the goal is met (more info on how the points are calculated below!)
         2. Click on [Set this Goal] to confirm!

Some other things to know about goals:

• only one goal can be active at a time
• a goal = a munzee to visit / to be unleashed at, otherwise "Free to Roam"
• owner can change goals an unlimited number of times
• we keep track of old goals
• if owner fetches Rover goal is reset

Please note that that video shows a much older version of the Munzee app -- the current app's buttons and other elements are laid out in a different way. However, the information should still be accurate for the most part!

Otherwise, here's a list:

• fetch it
  • only if:
    • it is at a munzee
    • the rover is active
    • a goal is set
    • the user has captured the munzee that currently holds the rover
  • can be fetched by every player except the player who unleashed it there
• reset it
  
  • the owner can reset the rover once a week to the latest active munzee it was unleashed at before (due to inactivity or at owner’s discretion)
  • the owner can reset the rover back into his hands once a week. the current goal gets also reset (due to inactivity or at owner’s discretion)
• unleash it
  • only if:
    • it is at a player
    • on a munzee that you have captured/deployed
    • can not be unleashed on the munzee it was dropped straight before
  • if the rover is unleashed at the goal munzee, its goal is set as reached and it can’t be fetched again before the owner sets a new goal
  • there can be unlimited rovers at one munzee

What Else Can I Do With a Rover On the Website?

• write a note
  • every player can write notes / journal entries on a rover

How Can Rovers Earn Points?

• Complete goal = points determined by formula:
  • 0 points if less than 50 miles
  • 1 point if 51-250 miles
  • 3 points if 251-500 miles
  • 10 points if 501-1000 miles
  • 15 points if 1001-2500 miles
  • 50 points if 2501+ miles
• Travel 1000 miles = 1 point
• Moved by 10 different players = 1 point
• Visit 50 Munzees = 1 point

How Can Rovers Level Up?

• Rover can level up by completing goals
• 100 points per level
