What is a guild?
A guild is a group of Munzee players that form a team and compete against other guilds for the top ranking. Each month guilds from around the world compete to make it to the top and reach Level 6. For more information, check out our article Intro to Gauntlet Games.
How do I play?
Each month’s Gauntlet Game starts on the 3rd day of the month at 00:01 MHQ time and ends on the 1st of the following month at 00:01 MHQ time. When a Gauntlet Game is active, points are added up for all of the members of the guild and combined for a total guild score. If you elect to join a guild after the current month’s gauntlet game has begun, any activity done during the gauntlet game period will count towards the challenges. Points used in calculation are from players capturing, deploying, and earning capture points on their own munzees. Note: Points count for guild play and for your personal account.
How do I join/leave a guild?
While the guild gameplay is active, players may not leave a guild. We want to ensure a competitive and fair battleground, so certain changes have been made regarding how players can join a guild. Players are only able to join a guild until the 12th of each month. After the 12th a player is unable to join a new guild. When the 13th day of the month starts at MHQ it will be TOO late. Once the gauntlet game ends, gameplay is over, and players may leave to change guilds until the next round begins. You can only be a member of one guild at a time. If you are invited to join a guild, you will receive a notification in the app and can accept or decline it by going to the Gauntlet Games section and tapping the gold “You’ve Been Invited!” button to review the request. If you are unable to find a guild to join or simply wish to mix things up, the Guild Randomizer button can be used in-app anytime during a gauntlet game. For more information, check out our article on How to Join a Guild.
How do I create/manage a guild?
Any player may join a guild, but only Premium Members can create one. The creator of the guild has the ability to promote other guild members to leaders, invite new players, manage requests to join the guild and remove players if necessary. Guild Leaders can also edit details about a guild at anytime such as their guild image, name, tagline, level goal and privacy settings. All guild management will be done in-app, though the Guild Leaderboard will still be made available online. For more information, check out our articles on How to Create a Guild and How to Manage Your Guild.
How are guild points calculated?
During an active gauntlet game, your regular munzee points that you receive for capturing, deploying, and when other players capture munzees have deployed (CapOn) are added to the total guild score. Additionally, any activity a player has done during the gauntlet game period will count towards challenges once a player joins a guild, even if they join after the current gauntlet game has started. For more information, check out are article for How to Complete Challenges.
Where can I find the gauntlet requirements?
Towards the end of each month, the level requirements for the next month’s gauntlet game will be revealed in the app, as well as in the month's Gauntlet Guide on the Munzee Blog. Each month’s requirements will be different than the last. At times the requirements will be based around different focuses, while select points earned may have to be for both individual players as well as the overall guild. Guilds are given the opportunity to review the requirements before the gauntlet game starts and their group is finalized in case any players wish to sit out for the month.
What are guild rewards?
Each month, the Gauntlet Games requirements are also accompanied by rewards for completing each level. Once the requirements per level have been completed, all members of the guild will be able to immediately collect the prizes that are listed in each month’s requirements. Sometimes these rewards will assist players in advancing to higher levels in the current Gauntlet Games. Another unique reward for completing challenges is an elite type of munzees called Gauntlet Weapons.
How many levels are there in Gauntlet Games?
There are typically five levels filled with different requirements and rewards each month. However, the April 2019 month of Gauntlet Games was the first month to feature a secret sixth level, “Level X,” that contained hidden requirements and rewards not made available to the public. (You’ll have to meet the requirements to see what the rewards are!) This special opportunity might be done for certain months, but you can always count on the traditional five levels in Gauntlet Games. Note that all guilds do not drive to reach Level 5. Different guilds have different goals and expectations, with many lower level guild options for new players.
Update in 2023, there are now consistently 6 levels offered in Gauntlet Games. Levels 1 & 2 are for beginners and free for ALL to play. Level 3 requires premium membership for a special item to deploy during the month. Levels 4-6 are intense and the requirements ramp up very quickly. Levels 4-6 are deemed HARDCORE and not intended for beginners.
What is Level X?
In 2019, most months included an additional “Level X.” This secret level never had the requirements or rewards made public, but a good rule of thumb is to simply keep going once you reached Level 5 if your guild wishes to reach this secret level. Level X was created for the extra determined Gauntlet Games players who truly wish to compete on an elevated level.
What happens if a player joins a guild in the middle of a gauntlet game?
Since players are able to join a guild at any point during a gauntlet game, this will affect the progress of the guild. Any activity a player has done during the gauntlet game period prior to joining the guild will count towards the current challenges. However, the current guild progress will be halted if a new player joins the guild mid-game and has not met their individual challenges yet. For example, if a guild has already reached Level 3 and a player who only meets Level 1 individual challenges joins mid-game, the guild will not be able to advance to Level 4 until the new member achieves each level’s individual challenges to catch up. The current guild members will still retain their guild level and rewards, but the new player will not be able to collect rewards for each level until they’ve completed their individual challenges.
What are the Guild Leaderboard badges?
Players can earn monthly leaderboard badges for placing in Gauntlet Games. These badges are awarded to guilds at the conclusion of each gauntlet game for reaching very specific ranks. Guilds will receive monthly badges for placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. These random placements will offer the opportunity for a variety of different guilds to earn an extra badge.
What are the monthly Gauntlet Games badges?
Additionally, each month will offer the chance to earn a new line of monthly badges awarded for earning distinct levels of Gauntlet Games. That means there is one badge to earn for each level completed, including Level X. Each month will feature different badges for every level. The following badge is for completing Level 1 of Gauntlet Games in May 2026:
What happens to guilds that were created before this update?
All guilds created before October 2019 have been transferred over to the new Gauntlet Games system. By default, the level goal for these guilds will be set to “Casual Guild,” and the privacy level will be set to “Private,” which can be edited using the new update. Since the old system made any Premium Member an "admin" and did not track when players joined, all current admins will be assigned as Leaders in the new system. These guilds can then decide who to keep as Leaders and demote others to members. Moving forward with the new system, the player who creates the guild will be assigned as the only Leader, until they promote other members.
What can I do if the new buttons or screens are too large?
We would recommend disabling or adjusting any custom settings to enlarge the size of the screens or the text on the device itself. On Android, this can be found under Settings -> Accessibility -> Vision -> Font and screen zoom. On iOS, this can be found under Settings -> Display & Brightness -> Text Size, as well as the Zoom option.
What should I do if I am experiencing technical issues?
We understand that Gauntlet Games means you are part of a team, and you don’t want any technical issues to get in the way of your contribution. For most issues, force closing and restarting the app will do the trick. If that doesn’t solve your problem, please email support@munzee.com so that we can assist you as soon as possible.
Can I still participate in Gauntlet Games using the old Munzee app?
Yes, you can still participate in Gauntlet Games using the Munzee v3 app, but you will not be able to see the challenges or track your progress using the app. You will also be unable to collect rewards after completing a level and must wait until the end of the month for the rewards to be automatically sent to you. We would recommend updating to the latest Munzee v4 app to take advantage of all these Gauntlet Games improvements!
Can I still access Gauntlet Games information on the website?
With the new Gauntlet Games system in place within the app, the Guild Central area will be removed from the website, including the ability to create a guild, send and manage invites, use the guild randomizer and chat with your guild. However, the Guild Leaderboard will still be accessible from the website, as well as within the app. We encourage you to download the latest version of the app in order to access all of the Gauntlet Games features!
